Emilia Włóka earned her PhD at the Institute of Parasitology, Polish Academy of Sciences, in Warsaw. In 2013-2014 she received the Prize of the Director of the Institute of Parasitology for her scientific achievements. She has participated in 28 training sessions dedicated to various laboratory techniques. She twice won an internal competition for young scientists at the Institute of Parasitology PAS (2012-2013 and 2013-2014), for the implementation of her own research project. Since 2014 she has been active as a local coordinator of the Science Festival (a science-communication event organized in Poland by scientists for people not related to science). In 2017, she implemented a research project on the impact of stress on the toxicity, metabolism and signaling of the entomopathogenic fungus Conidiobolus coronatus. Her research focuses on the use of insect cells, also cuticular components (lipids) and insecticidal fungi, to detect host infection strategies used by the pathogenic fungus. In recent years, her research has focused on investigating cuticle-degrading enzymes; enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidant mechanisms of insects and fungi during infection, as well as changes in fungal metabolic in the pathogenesis process.
