The Polish Academy of Sciences, founded in 1952, is one of the most prominent scientific institutions and the largest scientific network in Poland. Gathering both national and foreign members, it is responsible for spearheading the development of science in Poland. The Polish Academy of Sciences is also a network of 68 research institutes and the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology that cover all research disciplines. In various rankings, including the Scimago Institutions Rankings and the Nature Index, the Polish Academy of Sciences ranks first among research institutions based in Poland.

The PASIFIC fellows will be strongly encouraged to serve up to three months internships at suitable non-academic organizations located anywhere in the world. The fellows will have a freedom to chose an institution at which they would like to be hosted. Among other opportunities, they will have an access to over 2400 industrial, governmental, and third sector partners collaborating with institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, e.g. KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., Proteon Pharmaceuticals, Vista Laboratories, Dr Irena Eris S.A., ADR System, hospitals, and Polish City and Marshal Offices.
Research financing in Poland comes in major part from the state as well as the European programs (such as Horizon 2020 and EU structural funds) and private sector. The most important research funding bodies in Poland include the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the National Science Centre, and the National Centre for Research Development. In 2017 there was also established the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) [https://nawa.gov.pl/en] that supports academic exchange and international collaboration aimed at increasing the internationalization of Polish scientific community.
